Scripture Union Daily Guide 22nd February 2025 Outline:
Notice the kind of animal God required as a sacrifice for the purification of a defiled or unclean person (Numbers 19:2). The perfect animal (heifer) required by God for sacrifice symbolizes Jesus, the sinless Lamb of God, who gave His life for the world.
The animal was to be “slaughtered” just like Jesus was brutally killed on the cross of Calvary. The sacrifice was for the purification of those who were defiled by touching a dead body. Similarly, we get defiled by sin and require cleansing or purification. All defiled people not purified by the slaughtered animal remain unclean. So also, any believer with unconfessed sin remains defiled until genuine confession and repentance have taken place.
Read Numbers 19:13-20 and notice the effect of unconfessed sins on the community and the harsh judgment that follows. Our God abhors sin and defilement of our spirit and body (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). Unconfessed sin cuts us away from fellowship with Him and the end thereof is death (Romans 6:23a). If we must relate with God in any meaningful way, we must avoid sin at all costs.
And So:
Read 1 Corinthians 5:1-5, 12-13 to see how the Church should deal with members who remain in sin to avoid defilement of Christ’s body. How is this practised today?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer: Father, deliver me from every form of sin and defilement. Forgive my past sins.
Pray against famine in Nigeria. Pray that God will heal and bless our agricultural sector again, that we may have sufficient food to eat and export. Pray that the government will do more in encouraging and enhancing food production
